On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we are delighted to invite you to attend the 12th International Conference on Short and Medium Span Bridges (SMSB).
The 2026 conference will be held in the city of Vancouver, British Columbia from August 4-7 at the Sheraton Wall Centre Hotel.
As we stand at the crossroads of rapid technological advancement and pressing global sustainability challenges, the role of bridge engineering has never been more pivotal. SMSB 2026 is designed to be more than just a technical gathering—it is a call to action.
Our theme, “Shaping the Future of Bridge Engineering: Low Carbon, Resilience, and Automation,” reaffirms our collective commitment to pioneering bridge engineering towards a greener and smarter future. This theme highlights three vital pillars of progress: the pursuit of low carbon solutions to reduce the environmental impact of our infrastructure, a focus on lifecycle resilience to ensure durability amid aging assets and climate extremes, and the integration of automation through AI, robotics, and digital tools to transform how we plan, design, construct, and maintain bridges.
SMSB has long been a premier forum of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) for sharing knowledge, advancing practice, and fostering meaningful collaborations in bridge engineering.
